Friday Night Funkin’ is what happens when Dance Dance Revolution and a Saturday morning cartoon get locked in a recording booth together. Developed by ninjamuffin99 with music from kawaisprite and visuals by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, FNF exploded onto the internet in 2020 as part of a game jam, and hasn't missed a beat since.
You play as Boyfriend, a lovestruck mic-slinger battling for the approval of Girlfriend’s demon dad and a parade of increasingly unhinged opponents. Each week throws down a new set of songs, and with modes ranging from casual toe-tappers to Erect difficulty chaos, the challenge hits just right.
It’s a rhythm game where you press the arrow keys in time with the music to win freestyle music battles, and thanks to its open-source roots and massive community, it’s constantly expanding with fan-made mods, new characters, and wild remixes. Whether you’re jamming in story mode, diving into freeplay, or testing Week 7 against Tankman’s savage sarcasm, Friday Night Funkin’ is a musical date you’ll want to keep.
